The conference will present the latest and most dynamic trends, programs, and research-based models of safety currently in practice. What makes this conference so unique is the way in which the learning is offered through the powerfully blended lens of education, law enforcement, and community services. Going Back to Better: Reimagining School Return Through an Equitable, Restorative, and Trauma-Informed Lens (Wednesday, July 14, 2021)
COVID-19 thrust us all into a situation of fear, chaos, and overwhelming confusion. Schools were forced to adapt quickly, get creative, and ensure that students had continued access to learning. Some students have excelled without the stressors related to peer interaction and academic pressures, while many have not.
As districts are being instructed to return students to campuses, we return to those feelings of fear and anxiety and we navigate deciding what the best methods for returning are. School closures have provided us a rare opportunity in education and that is the opportunity to evolve. Join us as we reimagine what education might look like and identify key components to consider for a successful return to in-person learning.
Equip educators with critical skills for maintaining personal well-being
Understand the behavior indicators for common trauma responses
Identify and implement trauma-informed and restorative techniques for successful student return
Empower educational leaders to identify and remove barriers to educational equity
Presenters: Teresse Lewis, LCSW & Atsie Sanchez, LMFT, PPS - Educational Consultants for Collaborative Learning Solutions
