Weekly Focus: Mindfulness through Dance

Happy Friday! Due to your incredible feedback, we’ve decided to keep posting our Daily SEL lessons Monday through Friday until June 12. It is our hope that these continue to be helpful in giving children the needed skills to improve mental health and social-emotional skills.

Today we’re changing our regular mindfulness lessons to focus on dancing. Did you know that when we dance, we release stress hormones from our bodies? We also can move the traumatic memories from the cells our of our bodies all together and begin to heal. Check out the video below, blast the music and begin to dance.

Elementary Lesson – “Happy” Dance Party

 

Instructions:

  1. Watch the video and DANCE!
  2. When the song is over, do a quick body scan. How do you feel?
  3. If you are still feel a little stressed, dance for a little longer.
  4. Aim for a 10-15 minute dance party at least 3-4 days a week. 
  5. BONUS: Make a list of 5 other kinds of movement that make you feel happy.

Secondary Lesson – “Happy” Dance Party

Instructions:

  1. Watch the video and DANCE!
  2. When the song is over, do a quick body scan. How do you feel?
  3. If you are still feel a little stressed, dance for a little longer.
  4. Aim for a 10-15 minute dance party at least 3-4 days a week.
  5. Make a list of at least 5 other healthy things that can make you feel less stressed
